Black Diamond Migrates Key Projects to ClearQuest MultiSite

The Challenge

A mid-sized medical devices company needed to standardize the change process for multiple geographically-distributed development teams. Some of the teams were resistant to change. Projects needed to be migrated with minimal downtime.

The Solution

Black Diamond was engaged to implement ClearQuest MultiSite. Teams’ goals were aligned through a series of requirements gathering workshops. In order to minimize downtime, projects were converted overnight within hours.

The scope of the solution included:

• installing and configuring IBM Rational ClearQuest MultiSite on a new server
• conducting requirements gathering sessions among development staff
• defining new multi-site schema
• designing and developing tools to migrate existing project records to new multi-site schema
• designing and developing custom ClearQuest scripts
• estimating and scheduling project
• training tool users
• mentoring and otherwise supporting tool users during adoption period
• augmenting project teams with necessary skills to use tool successfully on CRM project

The Result

Black Diamond core consultants were able to successfully migrate key projects to the MultiSite database with minimal downtime. Through the use of custom scripting, several thousand records were submitted into the MultiSite database for existing project data. In addition, Black Diamond accomplished successful delivery and implementation of custom ClearQuest tooling, allowing non-MultiSite projects to automatically submit and track the status of records for MultiSite projects. Finally, we provided hands-on training and professional mentoring, allowing new staff members to quickly become self-sufficient.
